Parental involvement. The Mission of the Parent and Family Engagement Department of Brownsville Independent School District is to educate parents by providing them with the skills and tools necessary to motivate their children to obtain academic success and become productive self-driven citizens in a multi-cultural society. With proper parental involvement a child is less likely to feel the need to lash out and misbehave for much needed attention. Parent involvement is when parents participate in school events or activities and teachers provide learning resources or information about their students grades.
Parental involvement in school is defined as parent-reported participation at least once during the school year. However there is a lack of research in Chile as well as in Latin American countries in general leaving a gap in the literature about the generalization of findings outside developed and industrialized countries where most of the research has been done. Parental Involvement Parental involvement includes parental representation in decision-making collaboration between parents and educators in matters such as school improvement planning and communication between home and early learning and childcare setting and school.
Increasing parental involvement begins with having the capacity to educate parents on the ins and outs of how to be involved and why it is important. Parents involvement can take many forms.
