Loss of a parent. It can be very painful when your parent dies after a long and happy life. But I also know that theres new meaning in my life because of their deaths Continued. The loss of a parent when you are an adult can create confusing emotions.
We are expected to pick ourselves up close the wound quickly and move on. When a parent dies we are supposed to be prepared for this normal life passage or at least be more ready to accept it when it happens. And the grief one experiences after the loss is substantial.
When a parent of an adult dies there is almost an unspoken expectation that it will not hit you head on. The reality is you are swept up in. An adult is expected to accept death as a part of life to handle all sudden losses in an appropriate adult manner.
After all the death of a parent is the natural order of things. The agony of losing a child of any age is unparalleled. This equates to around 111 children being bereaved of a parent every day.
The parent-child relationship is strong. The grief can be life changing. If you were a primary caregiver for an aging or infirm parent this confusion can be heightened since you have lost two roles.
