Fort Hunt Park is located near Mount Vernon along the Potomac River in Northern Virginia on land once owned by George Washington as part of his River Farm plantation. Unless you plan for a group picnic there is no significant historic site in the park except for a small Fort at the gate. The trail is primarily used for walking nature trips and road biking.
The Park itself is tugged in wooded and residential area. The area is also notable for its high population of senior citizens and for being one of the first suburbs in wealthy Fairfax County. It was transferred back to the War Department for a period not-to-exceed one year after the cessation of hostilities to serve this purpose.
